Frequently Asked Questions

What makes your cakes different?

All of our cakes are made from scratch and we strive to make the best tasting, melt-in-your-mouth cakes you could ever imagine.  We use italian meringue buttercream as a filling, which is much different than most area cake decorators and bakeries (doesn't give you sugar overload).  Our attention to detail will give you a unique and lasting experience, no matter what the occasion.

What is the difference between a double layer and a torted cake?

A double layer cake has 2 layers of cake and one layer of filling.  When a cake is torted,  each of the layers is split - so that you have 4 thinner layers of cake, and 3 layers of filling.   A torte is more elegant than a double layer cake, more time consuming, and requires more ingredients.,

Our wedding cakes are torted and all other cakes are double layer, excluding regular sheet cakes and some of our traditional cakes.

What is Italian Meringue Buttercream?
Italian meringue buttercream is based on an Italian meringue, which is whipped egg whites cooked with hot sugar syrup.  Softened butter is then whipped into the cooled meringue, and the mixture is flavored as desired.  This type of buttercream is extremely soft and light and is not as sweet as the american kind that most are used to.  This makes it a perfect filling for our cakes.
Do you deliver out of town?

Yes.  Delivery in the immediate Galesburg area is included in the total price of the cake.  Any area outside of Galesburg is subject to a delivery fee.

Do you offer cupcakes?

Usually we do not prefer to do cupcakes due to the fact that cupcakes tend to dry out faster than a regular cake.  With that said, if you would like cupcakes, we will do them by the dozen for $12 per dozen or $15 per dozen if you would like them filled.

Do you offer cake tastings?

For wedding cakes, yes.  We usually do not offer a cake tasting for birthday or special occasion cakes, unless they are specially designed (tiered birthday cake, special anniversary party, etc).  Our tastings are included with the wedding cake consultations.

How much do your cakes cost?

The cost of a cake can vary depending on the style, flavor and overall design.  for this reason, we ask that you contact us for a price or consultation or visit our pricing page.

We do realize that some might say that our prices are a little more expensive than others in the area, but we would like to state that we are unique in most aspects. Our cakes are homemade from beginning to end, made with the finest and freshest ingredients, and are personally made by Clarice and Antonio (sometimes with a little help from Le'Char), so you can always expect the best product from us.

Do you ship?
Yes and no.  We do ship our peanut brittle, pralines, and under certain circumstances, pound cakes.  However, due to the fragile nature of decorated cakes, we do not ship our cakes.
How do I reserve a date?

For wedding or multi-tiered special occasion cakes, please contact us as early as possible. Because we do all of the baking and decorating ourselves, we limit the number of events/weddings we do each week.  In addition, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to save your date.

For all other cakes and confections, just call, write, or email us for orders and availability.

Do you offer dummy or fake cakes?
yes, but we can discuss this further at a consultation.
When can I order peanut brittle and pralines?

Due to the climate and sensitivity to humidity, we usually only offer peanut brittle and pralines through the fall and winter months.  As far as peanut brittle goes, we usually accept orders in september up to the end of December.  Pralines can be ordered from October through January, but we might be extending that time to year round soon.

Also, if you would like, we do offer pralines and miniature pralines as favors.  Contact us for more detail.

Do you offer cream cheese mints for weddings and special occasions?

Yes, we do.  Please see the pricing page for more detail.

How far in advance should I order my wedding cake or birthday cake?

Most generally, you should try to book your wedding cake up to 6 months in advance, no later than 6 weeks (that could push it depending on availability).  The sooner is always the better.

As far as birthday cakes or other special occasion cakes, we desire at least 1-2 weeks notice.

Everyone loved the caramel cake.  It was the topic of conversation Saturday night and Sunday.  There was only one piece left over and everyone was fighting to see who could get back to the house first and eat it after church...the Caramel cake was everyone's favorite hands down!  Thank you so much. -- C.A.

I just wanted to tell you that the cake you made for the wedding this weekend was fabulous!  The carrot cake may be my new favorite!  Thanks for making two very important brides in my life have such special days! -- L.H.
